March of the Brooms: 1983's Flights of Fantasy

Fantasia Brooms Disneyland Flights of Fantasy Parade 1983
To celebrate Disneylands 1983 opening of New Fantasyland, the park rolled out Flights of Fantasy, a massive parade highlighted by inflated balloon-like floats and characters. The most memorable moment, by far, was the march of the Fantasia Brooms.

They just kept on coming! These huge inflated costumes must have given their operators/performers quite a workout as they marched nonstop along the entire route

And there they go. I felt sorry for that second broom from the left; he looked like he'd thrown his back out.

This parade contained many unusual elements and rarely-seen characters, and I caught some of them on my little Kodak disc camera. More Flights of Fantasy coming soon!

  1. Greetings! I was in this parade. I was in the Fantasia unit, and was an enchanted broom! What a summer! If you want to know anything at all about what it was like to get into this costume, to march from Small World to the top of main street twice a day, in the record breaking heat that summer of 1983, Im the guy to ask! Peace.

  2. That's gotta be Jerry Pokracki, right??? Sorry about the spelling, bro...) We were broom brethren in that parade. Just a bunch of big, strong gus who didn't have to be "dancers", and woudln't wilt in the heat, like Jerry said. We killed it...twice a day!!

      Not so much now😩.
Memories that can never be forgotten, and some friendships continue which were begun that hot summer of 83’.
Peace, and God bless you Axel. 😊

  4. Dan Keseloff - Fellow "Broom Brother", checking in. My favorite part of that was when one of us fell and proceeded to be shrink-wrapped to the pavement by the fan unit. Good memories!
