The World Behind World of Color: Dark Paradise Pier

If you've already seen the terrific World of Color at Disney California Adventure, you might want to consider an alternate plan during the next performance: Dark Paradise Pier. It's one of the park's most atmospheric and unexpectedly pleasant surprises. It's also one of the very best times to visit Toy Story Midway Mania.

Most of the Pier's dazzling lights switch off during the show. After crossing the bridge toward California Screamin', you'll enter a wonderfully uncrowded and relaxed version of the popular amusement pier. It's dark enough to feel mysterious, but light enough for touring.

California Screamin' is dark--and unfortunately closed--during World of Color, but its loop takes part in the show as a huge projection screen.

Hello, Merida!
Below the loop sits the dazzling interior of our goal: Toy Story Midway Mania.

Other guests have the same idea, but it's a fraction of the usual wait time.

I enjoy World of Color, but I'm not always in the mood to sit and wait for a show. The fun of exploring the darkened pier (with the music and spectacular fountains as an incredible backdrop) plus a short wait for Midway Mania make this alternate plan one of my favorite DCA tips.
