Main Street's Masterpiece Maintenance Mural

Disneyland mural Main Street Horseless Carriages National
Now, this is what all maintenance doors should look like. Located near the Fire Station, this jolly painting adds character and backstory to a relatively quiet corner of Main Street, while turning an ordinary pair of maintenance/vehicle access doors into a little showpiece.

It also functions as a pretty classy and fun bit of advertising; National Rent-a-Car sponsors the Main Street Vehicles.

Omnibus and Company

Disneyland Main Street Vehicles Cinema Ominbus Horse Drawn
The World's Best Bus cruises by the Cinema as a Horse-Drawn Street Car clops past...in a shot taken aboard the Fire Engine. It's rush hour, Disneyland style, which is about as laid back and charming as any rush hour could possibly be.

Disneyland just wouldn't be Disneyland without this leisurely, ongoing transportation ballet (using beeps, honks and horse hoof clops in place of Tchaikovsky). It's every bit as important to the park's character as Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Matterhorn, and the Steam Trains pulling into the station.

I love all of the park's "lands," but I think Main Street makes me smile the most. It may not contain a spectacular blockbuster ride, but the whole area itself forms one big E Ticket experience.

Elliott the Park-Hopping Dragon

Pete's Dragon Main Electrical Parade Disney Elliott Eliott Elliot
Dreamworks may have the wonderful How to Train Your Dragon franchise, but Disney has no shortage of its own fantasy reptiles. There's the Maleficent dragon, of course, joined by the Reluctant Dragon, Figment, Mushu, the Jabberwock, Vermithrax Pejorative and that fellow under the castle in Paris....

Dapper Dans Make Beautiful Music With...Those Things

Disneyland Dapper Dans Deagan Organ Chimes
In honor of Dapper Day (last night at Disneyland, tonight at Walt Disney World), let's spend a moment with Disneyland's witty and energetic barbershop quartet, The Dapper Dans! We've arrived just as they've broken out those...those cool-sounding chiming instrument thingies. (Checks Google). Ah! Deagan Organ Chimes!

Could anything feel more wonderfully "Main Street" than watching these terrific singers? How about watching them sing "It's a Small World?" How about watching them sing "It's a Small World" while doing the robot and playing the Deagan Organ Chimes?

And now I wish Disneyland actually sold Deagan Organ Chimes, with a first lesson provided by the Dapper Dans. I can picture families and fan groups really getting into the idea -- imagine the musical possibilities for next year's Dapper Day!
